About MIPS: Giro spent years collaborating with the designers behind MIPS. The technology was developed by scientists at the Karolinska Hospital and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. The concept is based on 19 years of academic research. Through our extensive trials, they believe that helmets equipped with this technology may provide an additional measure of protection in some impacts.

MIPS stands for the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System. It's a slip plane liner developed to reduce rotational engergy to the brain. In a crash, the MIPS system allows the helmet to rotate independently around your head, redirecting impact energy which can provide more protection in certain impacts.
